friends of the lens: look of the month
by Facundo Casares
This is Jose Carlos: Jose or Carlos or Jose Carlos but never Juan Carlos. He seemed very ticklish since the first moment. Tall, good-looking and with very nice clothes, he was meant to be the first Friend of my Lens.
When I asked if I could shoot him he hid his face. “I hate pics,” he confessed. But he loved to show off: he danced, he talked and eventually he was asking me to click even more. After seeing him choreograph all of Backstreet Boys’ and K-Naria’s songs, after listening to his words, after seeing him pose, I chose the first photo I had taken: the one where he was hiding his face. As if this could preserve him as the same modest guy he had said he was.
Will all of my victims be so capricious? Only time will tell.
He wore a nice shiny jacket with wide checks on skull details. Yeah, I know skulls are not IN any more, but the details were just the right size. Nice grey winter business trousers were held up by a leather belt and key chain. His white Victorias shoes were a bit dirty but this made the whole look very down to earth.
There was a nice view of his arms when he took of his jacket after about one hour of dancing with it on - long enough for such a tiny non-air-conditioned bar. The tank-top T-shirt was basic enough to look cool. (Get ready for plain white tees as soon they’ll be all over the streets.)
We said goodbye.
I met him again over breakfast; he was wearing the same clothes. My flatmate came out of his room, winked an eye, and I left for work. Later I heard that his undies were black Calvin Klein -just in case you were wondering. Don’t expect this to happen so often!
